Collaborating with brands on reels can turn a growing account into a real income stream, but most creators approach it backwards: they wait for brands to find them, or they pitch with only a follower count and a rate card. Brands care about fit, audience trust, and results, not just reach. A creator with a smaller, engaged audience in the right niche often wins deals over a larger account with a mismatched audience. The path to brand work is preparation, a clear pitch, and content that feels natural rather than forced.

Start by making your account brand-ready before you pitch anyone. That means a clear niche in your bio, recent reels that show your style and quality, and a consistent posting history that proves you are reliable. Brands will look at your last dozen reels, not just your best one, so keep your feed tidy and on-topic. Also prepare a simple media kit: your niche, audience size and demographics where available, average views and engagement on recent reels, past collaborations if any, and examples of your best work. A one-page media kit makes you look professional and makes a brand's decision easier.

When you pitch, personalise the message for each brand. Mention a specific product you genuinely use or like, explain why it fits your audience, and propose one or two concrete reel ideas, not just a request for a collaboration. For example, instead of asking if they work with creators, propose a tutorial reel showing the product in a real routine, plus a second idea for a comparison or a day-in-the-life format. Specific ideas show that you understand the brand and your audience, and they give the brand something to approve quickly. Generic mass pitches are easy to ignore; tailored pitches get replies.

Pricing a reel fairly starts with your value, not with a copied rate from another creator. Consider your average views, engagement rate, production time, usage rights, exclusivity, and how many revisions are included. A simple starting structure is a base fee for the reel itself, plus additional fees for longer usage, paid boosting by the brand, exclusivity with competitors, or extra formats like a story or a second reel. Be clear about what is included in your base price, and put it in writing before you film. Underpricing may win a first deal but makes future deals harder, while overpricing without evidence will lose deals you could have won.

Negotiation should be calm and professional. If a brand offers product only when you expected payment, decide in advance whether that product and exposure are worth your production time, and say so politely if they are not. If a brand asks for changes that would mislead your audience or clash with your values, decline that part of the brief rather than compromising trust for a fee. Good brand relationships are built on clear boundaries: you protect your audience's trust, and the brand gets honest content that performs better because viewers believe it. A deal that costs you credibility is not a good deal.

When you create the branded reel, keep your normal style and let the product fit naturally into a reel your audience would enjoy anyway. Disclose the partnership clearly as required by the platform and by law, and place the disclosure where viewers will actually see it. Avoid reading a script word for word if it sounds unnatural; instead, cover the key points in your own voice and show the product in real use. Viewers respond to honest demonstrations, real results, and clear benefits, not to exaggerated claims or a long list of features. One clear benefit, shown well, beats five benefits rushed through.

Deliver on time, share the results, and make follow-up easy. Send the brand the live link, a short summary of views, likes, comments, saves, and shares after the first few days, and any notable audience comments or questions. That report turns a one-off deal into a repeat relationship, because brands prefer creators who communicate and show results. If a reel underperformed, be honest about why and suggest what you would change next time; that honesty builds more trust than hiding a weak result. Repeat work usually comes from reliability, not from a single viral reel.

Finally, grow your brand pipeline steadily rather than chasing every offer. Keep a list of brands that fit your niche, pitch a few each week with tailored ideas, and track replies, rates, and results in a simple sheet. Over time, you will learn which niches pay fairly, which briefs suit your style, and which brands are worth working with again. Brand collaboration is a long-term skill: clear pitching, fair pricing, honest content, and reliable delivery will bring more sustainable income than a single large deal ever will.
